The name
Kanthoruwa, කන්තෝරුව
The Sinhala word kanthōruwa means office. It was adapted from the Dutch word kantoor, which itself traces back through Middle Dutch (cantoor) and Old French (comptoir) to the Latin computōrium, meaning a place for counting. That root makes it a distant linguistic relative of the English words computer and counter.
