Android Engineer

Role Summary

Softvil Technologies is seeking a skilled Android Engineer to join their Software Engineering department. This is a one-year contract position based in Colombo, focused on creating and improving native Android applications and services tailored for enterprise-grade mobile hardware.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and support native Android applications utilizing Kotlin, Java, and modern architectural patterns like MVVM or MVI.
• Create responsive user interfaces through XML and Jetpack Compose.
• Implement integrations for RESTful APIs, local databases (Room/SQLite), and various hardware components.
• Utilize Zebra and Android SDKs to facilitate device and peripheral integration, including NFC, RFID, and barcode scanning.
• Address performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and application crashes.
• Execute unit and UI testing using tools such as Espresso, MockK, and JUnit.
• Engage in continuous integration/deployment workflows and peer code reviews.

Qualifications and Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a comparable technical field.
• Between 2 to 5 years of professional experience in native Android development.
• Strong command of Kotlin and Java, along with expertise in Coroutines, Flow, LiveData, and Dagger/Hilt.
• Solid grasp of OOP principles, multithreading, data structures, and RESTful services.
• Proficiency with Android Studio, Gradle, Git, and ADB.
• Preferred: Experience with Android Enterprise APIs, Bluetooth, Jetpack Compose in production, and CI/CD tools like Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
