Broiler Farm Manager

Role Summary

We are seeking a competent, experienced and results-driven Farm Manager to take overall responsibility for the management and performance of a large-scale commercial broiler farm. This is a senior, hands-on management position with full responsibility for production performance, farm operations, labour management, planning, biosecurity, maintenance, record keeping and reporting to the Directors.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Flock Performance

  • Take full responsibility for overall broiler production performance and achievement of company targets.
  • Closely monitor weight, feed consumption, FCR, mortality, uniformity and mortality.
  • Identify production problems early and implement correction action.
  • Plan farm activities and adjust culling according to farm performance, capacity and market requirements.
  • Maintain and supervise vaccination, medication and flock-health programs.

Records, Planning & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all farm inputs and outputs.
  • Ensure proper recording of client placements, feed, medication, vaccines, mortality and other farm records.
  • Carry out advance planning of farm inputs and outputs to ensure uninterrupted farm operations.
  • Prepare regular production, stock and management reports.
  • Report directly to the Directors on farm performance, operational issues.

Labour Management & Recruitment

  • Manage, supervise and motivate the farm workforce.
  • Plan farm labour requirements and allocate duties efficiently.
  • Manage staff performance, productivity and accountability.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training and development of farm employees.
  • Develop supervision skills to maintain high operational standards.

Maintenance & Spare Parts

  • Ensure all routine and preventive maintenance is carried out correctly and on time.
  • Coordinate repairs and minimize downtime.
  • Maintain stocks of critical spare parts and materials.
  • Keep farm buildings, ventilation, cooling, electrical and other farm systems fully operational.

Cleaning, Biosecurity & Security

  • Supervise cage/house cleaning, washing, disinfection and preparation between batches.
  • Maintain strict biosecurity and disease-prevention procedures throughout the farm.
  • Control movement of employees, visitors, vehicles and materials entering and leaving the farm.
  • Take overall responsibility for farm security, hygiene and cleanliness.

Marketing & Operational Coordination

  • Coordinate through chilling and culling schedules with marketing and sales requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication between the farm, feed mill, veterinary/technical team, marketing, accounts and other related companies/departments.
  • Ensure effective inter-company communication and coordination to achieve smooth farm operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Diploma in Animal Science / Livestock Production or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a commercial broiler farm management position.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • Good technical knowledge of commercial broiler production.
  • Ability to manage labour effectively.
  • High level of integrity, responsibility and accountability.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the entire farm operation.
  • Two strong work-related references are mandatory.
