Role Summary

The Legal Manager will be responsible for overseeing all legal and regulatory matters of the Company, providing strategic legal advice to Management, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, contractual obligations, and corporate governance requirements. The incumbent will manage legal risks, support commercial transactions, and oversee dispute resolution, and safeguard the Company's legal and commercial interests across its marine, civil construction, real estate, and related business operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to Management on corporate, commercial, construction, employment, and regulatory matters.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts, joint venture agreements, leases, procurement contracts, and service agreements.
  • Oversee litigation, arbitration, dispute resolution, and legal proceedings involving the Company.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and corporate governance standards.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, government authorities, regulatory agencies, and statutory bodies.
  • Advise Management on legal risks associated with projects, commercial transactions, and business operations.
  • Support land acquisitions, property transactions, BOI matters, and regulatory approvals.
  • Develop and implement legal compliance policies and procedures.
  • Maintain proper legal records and monitor contractual obligations across the Company.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 10 years of post-qualification legal experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial role, preferably within construction, infrastructure, real estate, or corporate sectors.
  • Education: Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka. Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL. B); Postgraduate qualifications in Commercial or Corporate Law will be an added advantage.
  • Age: 35 to 55 years.
  • Language: Fluent in English (written and spoken); Sinhala is essential and Tamil will be an added advantage.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office Suite, legal research platforms, document management systems, and contract administration software.
  • Key Competencies: Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, construction, and property law; excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills; strong analytical and legal risk assessment capabilities; excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; high ethical standards, integrity, and confidentiality.

Salary/Benefits

The successful candidates will be offered the opportunity to work on challenging and rewarding projects across Sri Lanka and the Maldives. A Starting Salary of 350,000 LKR.
