Driver and General Support Associate Temporary Contract

Role Summary

The Intermittent General Service Assistant/Driver (GSAD) serves as the primary driver during the 11-week Pre-Service Training for incoming American Peace Corps Trainees. Responsibilities include the safe operation of Peace Corps vehicles, ensuring vehicle maintenance, and providing logistical, manual, or administrative support when not driving. The position reports to the General Services Manager.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Education: G.C.E. O/Level with a minimum of five (5) passes.
• Experience: At least five years of professional driving experience.
• Language Skills: Proficiency in spoken and written English, and fluency in Sinhala and/or Tamil.
• Technical Skills: At least one year of experience performing basic vehicle maintenance and minor automotive repairs.
• Computer Skills: Basic knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Licensing: Valid Class “B” or “C” / “C1” driver’s license.
• Safety Record: No at-fault vehicle accidents or traffic citations/violations within the past five (5) years.
• Physical Requirements: Excellent health and physical fitness; must be able to perform moderate physical tasks and lift up to 50 lbs. (22.67 kg).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Education: G.C.E. O/Level credit pass in English and completion of G.C.E. A/Level.
• Experience: Two or more years of experience in a similar role, preferably with international organizations.
• Language Skills: Proficiency in English, Sinhala, and Tamil.
• Logistics: General knowledge of logistics management.
• Technical Skills: Advanced knowledge of routine automotive diagnostics and repair.
• Procurement: Basic understanding of procurement principles.
• Training: Successful completion of recognized driver safety courses.
• Intercultural Experience: Experience working in a cross-cultural environment.

Location

Peace Corps office in Colombo. During Pre-Service Training, the driver will reside on-site at the training location.

Salary/Benefits

• Work Hours: 40 hours per week.
• Length of Service: Intermittent position limited to up to 190 workdays per year.
• Bi-weekly (Pay period) rate: Rs 53,935 – Rs 59,604.
