Role Summary
The role involves managing the Finance Department function and handling inter-departmental coordination. Responsible for financial reporting and planning as per the Accounting Framework of the Country, statutory reporting (e.g., Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Department of Inland Revenue, Colombo Stock Exchange), and handling correspondence with the Department of Inland Revenue. The position requires a strategic leader to oversee treasury, tax administration, and internal control frameworks to support the company's strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Effectively manage company finances, including borrowing costs, assets, and liabilities.
- Actively contribute to organizational strategy development by challenging assumptions through robust analysis and insights.
- Provide oversight to investment/equity portfolios, fixed income securities, and government security transactions.
- Oversee the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial reports in compliance with SLFRS and other relevant standards.
- Coordinate with tax consultants to direct tax planning and ensure all tax administration (VAT, WHT, Income Tax, etc.) meets regulatory requirements.
- Identify internal control weaknesses and implement policies, systems, and mitigating steps for key risk elements.
- Strengthen MIS processes and provide leadership to the finance team by delegating tasks and managing KPIs.
- Evaluate alternative long-term borrowing strategies and make recommendations to the Asset & Liability Committee (ALCO).
Requirements/Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or a related field from a recognized university.
- Professional membership in ICASL, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent body; an MBA or ACFA will be a distinct advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of post-qualifying experience in a reputed NBFI or Financial Institution, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or similar capacity.
- Expert knowledge of SLFRS/Framework, Tax laws, and statutory requirements of CBSL, IRD, and CSE.
- Expert knowledge of Finance Management, SLFRS 9 principles (including impairment models), and Local Tax regulations.
- Sound ERP knowledge with experience in system implementation relating to Finance Modules will be a distinct advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including leadership, communication, persuasion, and the ability to exercise sound judgment.
