Dangerous Goods Officer

Role Summary

This position is available in the HSE & Security Department of our terminal operations in Port of Colombo and will report to GM – HSE & Security. The position involves the dangerous goods safety management in the terminal.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with Sri Lankan laws, regulations, and policies regarding the management of dangerous goods containers, and evaluate the relevant requirements compliance, and drive the implementation of HSE policy on the field according to the relevant guidelines and targets.
  • Formulating and complete the dangerous goods management system, follow up, implement safe operation working plan of dangerous goods & implement the dangerous goods training plan.
  • Monitor and guide the operation of dangerous goods, make sure the operations of dangerous goods container are complied with the safety management measures.
  • Lead the daily management of DG operation team and DG container yard. Conduct inspections and risk assessments, follow up remedy actions.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain emergency plans of dangerous goods, deploy emergency rescue materials and organize drills and rescues for the accidents of dangerous goods containers.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Successfully completion of G.C.E A/L in Bio Science or Physical Science stream.
  • Possession of NIOSH certificate/ Nebosh IGC or any equivalent qualification from a recognized institute/university will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 01 years of experience in a similar capacity with hands on experience in managing Health, Safety & Environment.
  • Proficiency in MS office packages and strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a quick learner and excellent communication skills in both Sinhala and English.
  • Good team player and ability to work under pressure.
  • Male candidates who age below 30 years are preferred due to nature of working environment.
  • The individual must possess a valid dual purpose vehicle driving license.
  • Passion in caring for human health, safety and concern for protection of environment.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Good communication skills couple up with PR skills.
