HORTICULTURIST (MALDIVES)

Job Requirements & Qualifications Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience in hydroponics, vertical farming, or controlled environment agriculture (CEA). Island/Remote Experience: Prior experience working on a Maldivian resort or remote island environment is highly advantageous. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of water chemistry, dosing pumps, LED grow lights, and automated climate systems. Physical Stamina: Ability to work comfortably in warm tropical climates, handle greenhouse environments, and lift up to 15 kg. Communication: Good command of English to coordinate efficiently with multicultural team members and engage politely with guests Males only. Key Responsibilities & Duties 1. Hydroponic & Environmental Management Nutrient Maintenance: Prepare, balance, and maintain specialized hydroponic nutrient solutions. Water Quality Tuning: Measure, log, and maintain Electrical Conductivity and water levels daily. Climate & System Calibration: Monitor vertical farm climate controls (LED lighting cycles, humidity, and airflow) to counter the challenging local tropical heat. Infrastructure Checks: Inspect plumbing, misting nozzles, pumps, and water reservoirs daily to prevent system blockages or leaks. 2. Crop Cycle & Propagation Management Seedling Production: Manage the designated propagation area; seed new crops weekly to guarantee a staggered, continuous harvest. Transplanting: Seamlessly transplant rooted seedlings into vertical racks or channels to fulfill continuous kitchen demands. Early-Stage Monitoring: Closely monitor newly transplanted crops for the first 7 days to ensure optimal root establishment and water flow. Harvest Logistics: Harvest mature salad greens and herbs at peak freshness, sorting and delivering them directly to the resort's central stores and culinary teams. 3. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) & Biosecurity Eco-Friendly Pest Control: Prioritize biological controls, organic neem oil, or physical traps to prevent insect damage, keeping in line with resort sustainability goals. Targeted Spraying: Execute strict, targeted chemical applications only when absolutely necessary, adhering strictly to food safety and safe harvest intervals. Sanitization: Wash, deep-clean, and sterilize vertical channels and reservoirs between crop cycles to prevent algae growth and root rot pathogens. 4. Administration, Collaboration, & Guest Relations Precise Record Keeping: Maintain flawless digital logs of daily EC/pH levels, seeding/transplanting dates, harvest yields, and any pest treatments. Cross-Department Support: Assist the landscaping and main gardening teams with wider island resort grounds upkeep when required. Culinary Synergy: Work closely with the Executive Chef to align harvest volumes with seasonal menus and guest occupancy levels. Resort Guest Tours: Occasionally host educational walks or workshops showcasing the resort’s sustainable farm-to-table hydroponic technology to guests. Salary – USD 700 + Service Charge with free food, accomodation, medical facilities, joining & retrun air tickets.
