Role Summary

The Assistant Manager – Internal Audit supports the Head of Internal Audit in providing independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of the organization’s governance, risk management, and internal control processes. The role is responsible for planning and executing risk-based internal audits, supervising audit assignments, evaluating the adequacy of internal controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of Internal Audit in planning, executing, and monitoring the annual risk-based internal audit plan.
  • Execute and lead internal audit engagements (operational, financial, compliance, and branch audits) ensuring timely completion and high-quality outcomes.
  • Evaluate internal controls, risk management, and governance processes to identify weaknesses and provide practical recommendations.
  • Prepare clear, concise, risk-based audit reports and follow up on agreed corrective actions.
  • Data Analytics / AI: Design analytics tests, perform data analysis using statistical/predictive techniques, and utilize tools like Advanced Excel, Power BI, Power Query, Alteryx, and Copilot to extend audit coverage.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to the Senior Executive and Executive – Internal Audit.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Full or part professional qualification in CA Sri Lanka, ACCA, CIMA, or an equivalent body.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in Internal Audit, External Audit, Risk Management, or Compliance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Sound knowledge of the Finance Business Act, CBSL Directions, FIU requirements, and Corporate Governance Directions.
  • Strong knowledge of risk-based internal auditing, internal control frameworks, and governance principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, report-writing, communication, and leadership skills.
