Associate Software Engineer (Java | React | Next.js)

Role Summary

SynthVaults is a UK-based technology company developing a next-generation Laboratory Ecosystem Optimisation (LEO) platform. We are looking for a talented Associate Software Engineer to join our growing engineering team to design and build a modern enterprise platform from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain high-quality Java Spring Boot services.
  • Build modern, responsive user interfaces using React and Next.js.
  • Develop secure RESTful APIs and backend business logic.
  • Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following industry best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Collaborate within an Agile development environment.
  • Continuously learn new technologies and contribute innovative ideas.

Requirements/Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of commercial software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Core Java.
  • Experience developing applications using Spring Boot.
  • Commercial experience with React and/or Next.js.
  • Good understanding of: OOP, SOLID principles, Design Patterns, RESTful API development, Relational databases and database design, Git version control, and Unit testing/TDD.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Docker, containerised applications, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, PostgreSQL, Apache OFBiz, Microservices architecture, and LIMS/ERP/enterprise software.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline from a reputable university.
