Litigation and Labour Law Specialist
Role Summary
Sumathi Holdings is seeking a competent and experienced Legal Officer – Litigation & Labour Relations to support the Group in handling civil litigation, court proceedings, labour-related matters, disciplinary cases, and legal documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate litigation, labour disputes, disciplinary proceedings, and other legal matters.
- Represent and liaise with courts, Labour Tribunals, the Department of Labour, arbitration, and conciliation forums.
- Conduct and support investigations, domestic inquiries, disciplinary hearings, and grievance resolution processes.
- Prepare legal and disciplinary documentation, including charge sheets, inquiry notices, reports, affidavits, and submissions.
- Draft, review, and maintain legal correspondence, contracts, employment agreements, policies, and statutory documents.
- Coordinate with external counsel, regulatory authorities, and law enforcement agencies while monitoring case progress.
- Provide legal advice on employment law, industrial relations, compliance matters, and legal risk management.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Attorney-at-Law qualification.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in legal practice in a corporate legal environment.
- Hands-on exposure to litigation, labour relations, disciplinary proceedings, and domestic inquiries.
- Sound knowledge of Sri Lankan labour law, employment regulations, civil law, and industrial relations practices.
- Strong legal drafting, research, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism and integrity.
- Experience in a diversified corporate group or large-scale organization will be an added advantage.
