Mental Health Counselor
Role Summary
The Family Planning Association of Sri Lanka (FPA Sri Lanka) is seeking a qualified and empathetic Counselor for the FPA Suwa Sewa Centre in Ampara. The role involves providing comprehensive wellbeing services, including support for mental health, sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and gender-based violence (GBV).
Key Responsibilities
- Directly report to the Centre Manager.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions.
- Support awareness and outreach sessions on SRHR, GBV, and mental wellbeing.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure ethical practices in service provision.
- Keep accurate records and provide periodic reports on counseling activities.
- Be available for afternoon and late-hour shifts, based on the center’s schedule and client needs.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (Renewable).
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in providing counseling services, preferably in an NGO or community setting.
- Languages: Fluency in Sinhala (verbal and written) is mandatory; knowledge of English and/or Tamil is an added advantage.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work with diverse communities with empathy and cultural security.
