Wharf Manager / Assistant Wharf Manager

Role Summary

The successful candidate will oversee import and export wharf operations, ensuring the efficient, compliant, and timely movement of cargo. The role requires close coordination with Customs, BOI, ports, shipping lines, terminal operators, transport providers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless operations and outstanding customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day import and export wharf operations.
  • Lead and develop the operations team to achieve high performance.
  • Ensure timely cargo clearance and efficient vessel operations.
  • Maintain compliance with Customs, BOI, Exchange Control, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with Customs, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, BOI, shipping lines, terminal operators, freight forwarders, and transport providers.
  • Oversee HS Code classification and the accurate preparation of Customs declarations, permits, licences, and related documentation.
  • Drive operational efficiency through process improvements and digital systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
  • Wharf Manager: Minimum 5 years' managerial experience in high-volume import/export wharf operations with proven leadership of operational teams.
  • Assistant Wharf Manager: Minimum 5 years' experience at Senior Executive level in import/export wharf operations with experience supervising operations and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong IT literacy.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid Customs House Agent (CHA) License.
  • Sound knowledge of HS Code Classification.
  • Working knowledge of ASYCUDA and other logistics management systems.
  • Experience in Customs documentation and cargo clearance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet demanding operational deadlines.
