Resident Microbiologist

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Microbiology and Clinical Pathology Departments, ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic services.
  • Lead laboratory quality management systems, accreditation compliance (CAP/ISO/Good Laboratory Practice), quality assurance programmes, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, biosafety, and clinical governance requirements while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and laboratory excellence.
  • Drive the implementation of advanced laboratory technologies, new diagnostic platforms, and service innovations to enhance clinical outcomes and operational efficiency.
  • Provide expert clinical consultation and technical guidance to clinicians, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders on microbiology and diagnostic pathology services.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary laboratory teams through workforce planning, competency assessments, training, and continuous professional development programmes.
  • Support the Head of Laboratories in strategic planning, budget management, recruitment, performance management, resource optimisation, and expansion of reference laboratory services.
  • Oversee the development, review, and approval of laboratory policies, standard operating procedures, technical documentation, and quality records.
  • Promote research, innovation, and evidence-based laboratory practices while ensuring cost-effective resource utilisation without compromising quality or service standards.
  • Foster stronger collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to enhance customer satisfaction, resolve clinical and diagnostic queries, and ensure exceptional laboratory service delivery.

Qualifications

  • MBBS and SLMC registration
  • Post Graduate qualification (MD) in Clinical Microbiology
  • Diploma in Medical Microbiology from a recognized Institute
  • Expertise in knowledge in infection control areas
  • A proven teaching and research background
  • Strong leadership skills, good interpersonal skills

Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience at Senior Microbiologist level
  • More than 5 years of experience in managing large scale medical labs.
