Senior Electrical Draughtsman - HV Substations

Client: A reputed Dubai-based FMCG company operating in Sri Lanka.

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed design drawings for HV substation projects, including layouts, SLDs, schematics, cable and tray routing, earthing systems, lightning protection, and equipment installation drawings.
• Develop shop drawings, builder’s work drawings, authority submissions, and as-built documentation in line with project requirements.
• Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, MEP, Protection, Telecom, BIM, and site teams to ensure accurate and fully integrated designs.
• Optimize equipment arrangements, cable routing, and space utilization to minimize site installation constraints.
• Ensure drawings comply with client specifications, approved schematics, project schedules, and applicable regulatory standards.
• Maintain drawing quality, revision control, document tracking, and timely submissions for consultant and client approval.
• Guide junior draughtsmen and support the team in resolving technical and coordination issues.

Requirements

• Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Drafting, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10–12 years of experience in electrical drafting, with strong exposure to HV substation projects.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, with knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, and Dialux considered an advantage.
• Strong experience in substation layouts, cable routing, tray layouts, SLDs, schematics, earthing systems, lightning protection, and builder’s work drawings.
• Sound knowledge of HV, MV, LV, ELV, power distribution, containment systems, and electrical infrastructure.
• Familiarity with DEWA, SEWA, RTA, TAQA, IEC, and IEEE standards will be highly advantageous.
• Ability to interpret load schedules, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations, and short-circuit information.
• Strong attention to detail, technical coordination, time management, and ability to handle multiple fast-track projects.
• Prior experience working on Middle Eastern power or infrastructure projects will be a distinct advantage.
