Role Summary
The successful candidate will lead the technical underwriting function, providing expert support across insurance portfolios. The role ensures accurate risk assessment, competitive placement, technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and superior client service while driving growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwriting & Risk Assessment: Analyze client risk information, evaluate risks, structure coverage solutions, and recommend placement strategies.
- Quotation & Policy Management: Obtain competitive quotations, prepare comparison analyses, and ensure accuracy of policy terms, endorsements, clauses, warranties, deductibles, and pricing.
- Technical Documentation & Compliance: Prepare, review, and validate proposals, slips, schedules, endorsements, and policy wordings while ensuring compliance with IRCSL regulations, insurer guidelines, and internal SOPs.
- Insurer & Internal Coordination: Liaise with insurers for approvals and provide technical advice and pre-bind support to Relationship Managers and Corporate Sales.
- Quality Control & Continuous Improvement: Minimize errors and rework through technical checks and stay updated on products, underwriting practices, and regulatory changes.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business Management, Finance, or related discipline; OR professional qualifications from recognized insurance institutes or equivalent.
- Advanced insurance and technical underwriting certifications will be an added advantage.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in technical underwriting within an insurance company or insurance brokerage.
- Strong exposure to all classes of insurance products and proven experience in handling large corporate risks and complex placements.
- Demonstrated success in negotiating directly with insurers.
- Technical Competencies: Underwriting & risk analysis, insurance programme design, policy wording interpretation, claims awareness, regulatory knowledge, reinsurance awareness, and insurance market knowledge.
