Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Welder to join our Maintenance & Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for carrying out high-quality welding, fabrication, and repair work to support the maintenance and continuous operation of plant machinery, equipment, and infrastructure. The role requires hands-on experience in operating welding equipment, particularly MIG and TIG welding machines, along with the ability to interpret technical drawings and fabricate metal components to detail. The Welder will ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards, quality requirements, and Verger's operational excellence practices while supporting preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Your role will involve:

  • Performing welding, fabrication, and repair work on machinery, equipment, and plant infrastructure.
  • Operating welding machines, including MIG and TIG welding.
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
  • Fabricating and assembling metal structures, frames, guards, and machine components as required.
  • Inspecting welded joints to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
  • Assisting with installation, modification, and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Maintaining welding equipment, tools, and work areas in good working condition.
  • Identifying and reporting equipment defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety procedures while carrying out welding activities.
  • Collaborating with the Maintenance & Engineering team to minimize equipment downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.

You should have:

  • NVQ Level 3/4 or an equivalent qualification in Welding, Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in operating welding equipment, including GAS, Arc, MIG, and TIG welding machines (must).
  • Experience in metal fabrication, cutting, grinding, and assembly.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication plans.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and safety standards.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to use measuring instruments and fabrication tools accurately.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance will be considered an added advantage.
  • Ability to work beyond normal shift hours during emergency maintenance requirements.
